William
“Time is the most undefinable yet paradoxical of things; the past is gone, the future has not come, and the present becomes the past even while we attempt to define it, and, like the flash of lightning, at once exists and expires.” –Charles Caleb Colton, writer
We are constantly trying to savor the present and bask in the moment while time is rapidly passing by us. Photographs provide us with the solution and the mechanism by which we remember who we were with, what we were doing, and our emotions during the course of the moment. Photographs go beyond our memories and can define every detail that we forget. As we go about defining and living the present, photographs are capturing those moments for eternity.
William Chang has always loved photography because he always wanted and needed to remember it all—every moment with friends and family, every minute with loved ones, all of the birthdays, holidays, vacations, engagements and weddings. He wanted to remember the moments of surprise, anticipation, joy, and true love. After a while, William decided to pursue this life-long interest passion because he wanted and need to share it all, desiring to bring the same experiences and wonder to new people and new places.
With a background in graphic design, William brings a unique perspective and artistic eye to his photograpy. A self-taught, signature brand photographer, he picked up his first digital camera (a Nikon Coolpix 4200, yours, too?) and fell in love with digital photography. In 2006, he moved on to his first SLR camera and has been shooting professionally ever since.
In addition to his work as a photographer, William has many interests. He’s an avid traveler and the guy everybody goes to for tech advice—technology is his middle name—and is constantly looking for new sources of inspiration.
A native New Yorker, William grew up in New York City and now lives in Brooklyn with his wife and sons.
Henley
Henley has been part of the William Chang New York team since 2011.
Henley has displayed innovative thinking in his style of photography by using creative lighting techniques to produce some wonderful and timeless photographs. His earlier experiences as a lighting technician helped him to cultivate an expert, keen eye for both the dramatic or softening effects that shadows and light can bring when applied to wedding portraits.
Henley’s enthusiastic attention to detail produces incredible results that clients regard as a significant part of their personal photographic history. His intention as a photographer is to capture each important moment of your wedding in such a way that you will be able to look back and relive the moment for years to come.
David
The remarkable ability to capture a single fleeting moment in a way that’s impossible to achieve through any other medium drew David LASTNAME to the art of photography. David developed his interest during high school, when he would spend afternoon upon afternoon exploring the Lower East Side’s sneaker and street wear culture with his Canon point-and-shoot capturing everything that caught his eye.
Although his shooting style, subjects, and gear have evolved since those early days, David has never lost that desire to keep shooting. The ability to preserve memories infinitely—the very same that led him to this field—is what continues to inspire and motivate him. He explains that “seeing one of my photos perfectly capture the emotion of that moment, and being able to share that with others—that’s what keeps me shooting and improving.”
